Governor Walz reappoints Stephen Spears to Minnesota Housing board
ST. PAUL, MN — Governor Tim Walz announced the reappointment of Stephen Spears of Plymouth to the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (Minnesota Housing) Board of Directors, effective March 4, 2026. Spears’ term expires January 7, 2030.
“Stephen is a proven leader and a valued member of the Minnesota Housing board,” said Commissioner Jennifer Ho. “Stephen’s leadership in community banking and affordable lending will continue to support our work to create, preserve and finance affordable housing across Minnesota."
Spears leads Bremer’s Community Banking Team, overseeing secondary marketing and affordable lending functions. He supports the bank’s commitment to expand service to Black, Indigenous, and communities and businesses of color. He brings more than 25 years of financial services experience and deep expertise in residential lending, with prior senior leadership roles at KleinBank, GMAC-RFC and U.S. Bank.
Spears currently serves on the boards of Spare Key and Hope4Youth, where he is Board Chair. He has also served on the board for Kinship of Greater Minneapolis and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Simpson Housing Services.
Minnesota Housing's board of directors ensures the independence of decision-making and maintaining financial assets.
The board meets at least once a month (generally the fourth Thursday of each month). Meetings are open to the public and start at 1 p.m. unless noted otherwise. Learn more at the Board of Directors webpage.
